Food and culinary traditions are links between cultures. All cultures have their kitchen specials, dishes for festivities and unique principles of preparing food. From cooking to steaming, boiling and broiling to the use of herbs and spices – cooking is part of people’s cultural narrative.
Migrant and refugee women met in Stuttgart to narrate about their personal culinary specials, to inform about unique dishes of the areas their came from and to write down stories linked to specific dishes. The women cooked together, went to the market, tried and tested each other preparatory activities and exchanged memories about early childhood memories about the food they enjoyed at their grandmothers’ places.
An intercultural cookbook was produced and put together. The women used an editing software to design the pages with the help of a professional editor and layout expert. They took photos, researched on holidays and festivities and discussed sustainable shopping of regional products.
