Wemin at the Raval Culture Festival and at the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
If there is a multicultural neighborhood in Barcelona, it is the Raval. The Rubió and Lluch Gardens hosted on Friday 8th of November, a new edition of this festival. Different entities, groups and associations worked all together under the motto “Rituals, words, sounds and fabrics of diversity” and Wemin was there, inviting all visitants to take part of the activities “"Coser y contar" [sew and tell stories, with Sussagna Navó] and the Textile activism workshop with Francesca Poggi.
Our activities claim the diversity of the neighborhood and the anti-racist struggle was the center of the program, which wants to contribute to building an egalitarian neighborhood without prejudice.
During the day, Wemin participants were sewing textile pieces to claim the rights of migrated women. Each participant produced a small pennant, with a textile illustration and a motto in favor of the migrated woman.
It was a very interesting, diverse and fun multicultural meeting. Although many of the women walkers did not dare to join the workshop, they did take the time to congratulate the participants for their creativity and perseverance at work, as well as for the good results that are exposed today in the old school of Fine Arts Arts of Barcelona, along with other elements generated by the wermin’s workshop.
On the other hand, as a complementari action, on 25th November, we find a great opportunity to show what we have been working during several weeks: our scarf with our messages for the elimination of Violence against Women. Before being exhitibited, we decide to go the public demostration and “dress” our work, our messages. We really enjoyed this opportunity: to participate in the unitary demonstration together with Catalan women to send a clear message to the world: the feminist struggle will always be anti-racist.
