Wemin at the 5th European Migration Forum

The 'Marketplace of projects and best practices' of the dialogue platform on migration, asylum and migrant integration welcome offered a privilege space to present Wemin during the 5th European Migration Forum, held in Brussels the 3rd and 4th April.

Under the motto “from global to local governance of migration:  The role of local authorities and civil society in managing migration and ensuring safe and regular pathways to the EU” the Migration Forum gathered around 250 participants, including more than 120 civil society organizations from across the European Union. Dimitris Avramopoulos, European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship and Luca Jahier, President of the European Economic and Social Committee offered the opening statements. 

This forum has been an opportunity to enable fruitful exchanges between the  participants to discuss the challenges and gather the good practices when it comes  to the role of local authorities and civil society in managing migration and  ensuring safe and regular pathways to the EU. The best moments happened during the workshops and interactive debates. 

In this meeting point, during the entire the first day, our powerpoint presentation was running in two of the eight available screens, and our posters and fliers were distributed to those participants that showed their interest. 

We had the opportunity to present the work that the Wemin Consortium is doing to empower migrant and refugee women to became protagonist of the life of the communities they live in and to act as multipliers within their families and circles. We had the chance to informally discuss with some key actors the Guide for Policy Makers and the 10 good practices in the field of social integration and to talk about our dissemination strategy. 

The main output of the Forum is the document "Recommendations adopted by the European Migration Forum, 5th meeting". The representative of Wemin at the Forum, Esther Subias of Colectic (Spain), appreciate that this networking opportunities helped us to better understand the importance of the work we're doing and also to learn about another projects that other consortiums are running.
