ALDA took part in the third WEMIN partner meeting, held in Florence (Italy) on 9th and 10th of January, hosted by OXFAM ITALIA. ALDA was represented by Solène Falk, project manager and Irene Zanetti, head of communications.
WEMIN is a two-years project funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Found of the European Union, which stands for “Migrant Women Empowerment and Integration”. Concretely, the project implements a new integration model for refugee and migrant women of all ages in all the communities involved, through a deep exchange between migrant and local women, shared on intercultural dialogue, languages training, mentoring sessions, several cultural activities. Partners thoroughly discussed the ongoing and future challenges of the project, thinking together of strategies to maximise the impact of the work, in such a sensitive time in Europe.
After the discussion, OXFAM invited all participants to discover Florence through a special “migrant tour”, guided by two migrants from Africa, which showed lots of hidden beauties, highlighting the multicultural soul of Florence and its welcome network. Finally, all participants tasted a traditional cardamom tea in a Somali café, where Florentine Somalis meet. That was a brilliant activity to stress migrants’ deep integration into social and cultural fabric of Florence, as well as the key activity of Italian and international volunteers.
