Stories of Change – Sabee Shrestha from Nepal

“I came to Portugal because my family was already living here. In addition, the cost of living is reasonable. Here I can not make a lot of money, but I am sure that I will have a very happy life. And the people of Portugal are incredibly friendly and helpful. I also really like the weather. Neighbors generally welcome immigrants very well, even with the language barrier, they smile with us. That is why I feel that Portugal is my second home.

But the bureaucratic system is very slow and gives us many headaches. I learned what is patience with Portuguese people. Portugal is a country of patience”

Sabee arrived to Portugal from Nepal 6 months ago. The WEMIN project allowed her to learn Portuguese, meet friends from other nationalities, but also to overcome some challenges she faces in her host society. In this process, Sabee has also integrated another project of Renovar a Mouraria and is now one of the 20 migrants who shares their culture and personal route in guided tours for the general public and in schools.
