All decorations of “Arraial Composto” were produced in the workshops “Saturdays in Construction” and made from reused materials.
“Arraial Composto” is an annual popular festival, promoted by Renovar a Mouraria Association, during June, in a square in the Mouraria district, in the framework of Lisbon festivities, which are spread throughout all over the city. For 3 years the organization of this event has been introducing good practices of environmental sustainability.
The inspiration was the popular festivals from all over the world, particularly from India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The starting point is the reflection on climate change, even as one of the major causes, direct or indirect, of current migratory movements. Pennants made from used plastic bags, wreaths born from plastic bottles, flowers made from milk and juice packaging.
During the Arraial Composto, on Saturday afternoons, some small constrution workshops were held with the community wemin women in order to continue the production of the decorations, with the residues that resulted from the party itself.
